Yes, good point. I've added a paragraph on "Limitations" in ?exams2nops in the SVN here on R-Forge. Should be re-compiled in the next hour or so...

using the R-Forge repo solves this issue!

a minor thing that popped up is that using grouping like this:

myexam <- list(
c("L10","L11","L13","L14","L15","L16"),
c("L19","L20"),
"L18"
)

there seems to be an issue if questions within one "group" have different number of response options

ie
if L19 and L20 have 4 and 5 response options respectively I get the following error:
the following groups of exercise do not have the same length: L19/L18

not a big problem, but good to know

thanks Achim!!

Due to some oversight on my part, this did not work until very recently. Incidentally, a colleague reported the same problem last week! The issue should be fixed in the devel version of exams. Could you try to

install.packages("exams", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org")

and check whether this fixes the problem for you?

could it be that the nsamp = c(2,2,1) solution described below does not work with exams2nops() ???

Just provide a vector in nsamp:

exams2pdf(myexam, n = 2, nsamp = c(2, 2, 1))

Hi,

I would like to random sample some exercises but have other fixed in the exam.

So from these exercises:

myexam <- list(c("L11","L12","L13"),
c("L21","L22","L23"),
"Fixed1")

I would like to get 2 different exams with 5 exercises each.
2 from c("L11","L12","L13")
2 from c("L21","L22","L23")
and in both Fixed1.

when I run:
exams2pdf(myexam, n = 2, nsamp=2)

this all works fine, but I get Fixed1 in each exam twice ...

any idea on this?

thanks
michael
